It's been about time I've gotten back on my blog shit. College season is back, that means time for me to have Wiz Khalifa on repeat on my iPod for the next few months. Being the person who introduced Wiz to all my friends back when he was unknown to nearly all of the hip-hop population, I feel obligated to introduce all new fans or 'Taylors' as Wiz would call them to the music that brought him to where he is today. Being one of the originals who was around back then, I would say maybe 10%... Continue reading ...

One of my favorite white boy rappers Tom P is back with his latest single 'Drunk Girls' bringing along some respectable features Nappy Roots and Aleon Craft. Tom P has the best flow for a white rapper that I've heard since the old Eminem a decade ago. Don't believe me? Check out the Intro to his last mixtape Root for the Underdog.
'Drunk Girls' is a great single for fans to start hyping up for his next mixtape which is TBA. I was waiting for Tom P to get some more co-signs from credible ... Continue reading ...

For those of you living under a rock, Ye-Z's much hyped album Watch The Throne dropped yesterday. 'Niggas in Paris' was one of those "oh shit" tracks from the album. They sampled the movie Blades of Glory, Ye and Jay are the only people in the world who could pull that off. The beat is pistachios and it's one of tracks where you could see Jay take over the spotlight. I had my skepticism of WTT but the two delivered and gave me a near classic album. This will be the only song I will be pos... Continue reading ...

Alright I will admit, this is the best I've heard from Game in years. Is it enough to save his album? Absolutely not. His mainstream single 'Pot of Gold' isn't even on iTunes top 200 songs being sold. I don't see Game selling more than 100k RED albums. If he does congrats, his name is getting worn out and if name dropping is the only thing keeping him alive at this point, the man has many things to worry about. Red is the color of death, this album is dead.

Well it's Chris Brown doing what he does best. I always thought he sounds best doing slow R&B rather than techno pop. Don't get me started on his rapping, after hearing he's doing an all rap mixtape, that's just embarrassing. Supposedly if this song got leaked, he wasn't going to put it on his next album Fortune. C'mon Chris, everything gets leaked, leaks help keep your name buzzing. Just accept it and roll with it. This is real good too.

Sounds like we get another J. Cole hit on our hands. Not known yet if this will appear on 'Cole World: The Sideline Story', but having Trey Songz on the album definitely is a reach towards mainstream success. But now knowing true fans of Cole, putting a mainstream RnB artist on a song means he's "selling out"...whatever that means nowadays.

While Smoke DZA is preparing for his album RollingStoned, which is being released on August 30, we hear the first single 'On the Corner' featuring Bun-B & Big KRIT. This is a real dope combination of artists. Big KRITS southern chorus blends right into DZA & Bun's verses real good. A good laid back tune to listen to as we are winding down to the end of summer.

First the Meek Mill version hit the webs yesterday. Then the Rick Ross verse was added to 'Work' but with tags on it. Now the CDQ/Tagless version has hit the webs. Need to hear Meek Mill over a different type beat soon, or he's going to be written off. Hanging with Rick Ross can cause a dumbing down of lyrics and excessive weight gain.

Another day another release from the trio. I believe this is the 5th track that has appeared now, the mixtape Big Sean said is coming should show up anytime now. I gotta say Curren$y has been running away with the best verses on nearly every release. 'Proceed' like the previous tracks as a whole, is shrug worthy and if people aren't already fans, it's not going to bring in anyone new. With eveyone questioning if TM 103 will ever get released. Jeezy deads those questions with the first single 'Shake Life'. All we've heard from him on the mixtapes were hard street songs. Holy crap. Trae the Truth coming in big for the fourth. The only track I was excited for on Trae the Truth 'Street King'. I was wondering how MDMA would fit into the song, but it's just the repetitive chorus. If this song wasn't hosted by Trae it would be a smash. No hate, Trae doesn't have mainstream appeal due to his abnormally deep voice, but this a great shot. Trae came in and stole July 4th for himself. Lupe Fiasco & Wale were the brightest because they fit in with the beat the best.... Continue reading ...

Two of the new recently signed artists from the powerhouses YMCMB & MMG formed together on such a clever name for a track. Both of these artists still have grow and get much more exposure before they will become front runners for both groups.

Another Lamar sighting. 'Hol' Up' is the next track that will appear on an upcoming mixtape, #Section80, which Lamar announced will be dropping on July 2nd. Behind J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar is an artist that I'm anxiously waiting for his debut studio album. Even though that album won't be released until 2012. 'Hol' Up' is produced by Sounwave who provides a hypnotizing horn & drum beat. With the cuts that we've been hearing lately, #Section80 looks to be a very quality mixtape release.

K. Sparks releases the first track that will appear on his upcoming album presented by DJBooth.net. I feel like the production was overdone a bit, but Sparks blew it out of the water. Sparks takes us back in time with this old school flow. If you read my review of Tomorrow Today you would know I view K. Sparks as a slept on artist with above-average mic skills. I'm still waiting for that record that will spark his career. (Get it?) K. Sparks & Jeff Chery are very alike to me. Both will ge... Continue reading ...

XV is celebrating reaching 30,000 views on twitter. This song is a little weird for me, but he can spit alongside the best of him. The chorus is pretty bad on this, but it's still a good song, especially the lyrical side. XV has the ability to relate with not only rap nerds but also video game nerds and the average college student. But seriously, he needs to be working on that album. Hold up one goddamn minute! Is that 50 Cent rocking Jerry Curls? I don't know what goes on in his mind, either he is a genius or a wack job. A couple months ago we had 50 sending out youtube 'Freestyles' everyday for like 2 weeks straight, sending shots at Shyne, and promoting Sleek heaphones. Then he just disappeared for a while. How do we feel about this track as the single? Sampling Kanye West's 'The New Workout Plan' & Paula Abdul's 'Straight Up'. One of the more interesting tracks off of Big Sean's Finally Famous album dropping June 28th. This one features Lupe Fiasco. Lupe outperforms Sean lyrically on this one. Frankly the chorus lulls the listener a bit. Listening to the beat I'm assuming this one has No ID's written all over it. (Yup, No ID & Exile). Remember when Nicki Minaj was known for her rapping ability? Well that image is quickly dissolving as this latest track is another pop song. Unlike the last few tracks that was released this one isn't half bad though. The chorus is catchy and will get obsessed from all of her female followers. What a great way to start. We get another freebie from Drake today and of course it is produced by 40. 'Marvin's Room' is another singing/rapping song where Drake transitions from one to the other quite well I'd have to say. I don't know who Marvin is, but he's must have gotten on Drake's bad side.
One problem I have had with any of Drake's latest music is it's the same topic over and over. I'm quite tired of the hardships of the champagne life. This cut focuses more on love, but it's... Continue reading ...
